By posing star rating questions based on specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), you can collect valuable quantitative data to see how well your content hits its intended objectives.
Simply embed a star rating into an action, and it triggers the moment a learner completes that action—capturing instant feedback right in the flow of learning!
All learner responses are aggregated and displayed neatly in the Gnowbe Dashboard, making it easy to track performance over time.
What KPI Types Can You Measure?
When you add a star rating, Gnowbe lets you pick from four key categories:
- Happiness: Gauges learner satisfaction with your program or the Gnowbe platform itself.
- Program Effectiveness: Helps you measure how well the program fulfills its core learning objectives.
- Program Quality: Tracks what learners think about the overall quality of the content.
- Various: Gives you the freedom to set custom KPIs tailored to your specific needs.
How To Add Star Ratings
- Access your program in Creator mode.
- Select the action where you want to embed your star rating. The rating will trigger immediately after the learner completes this action.
- Click Action Settings in the top left corner of the action.
- Click Add In-Action Rewards.
- Click Add Ratings.

Select your KPI and craft your question. Need inspiration? Check out the ideas/sample questions provided to help you set the right prompt for each KPI.
- Once done, click Save.
- A Rating label will appear on the action to show that a star rating is embedded.
- To delete, access your Star Rating again and click Remove.
Note: Star Ratings only pop up once for your learners. If they revisit an action later, the star rating won't prompt them a second time.

To get the most accurate insights without overwhelming your audience, keep these smart strategy tips in mind:

Timing is everything
Place your ratings strategically. Asking "How much are you enjoying this learning experience?" on the very first action will give you premature data, as learners haven't had a chance to explore yet.

Keep it intentional
Avoid adding star ratings to every single action. Stick to key milestones (like the beginning, middle, or end of a module), so learners don't experience survey fatigue!

Be clear and direct
Keep your questions short and focused on a single idea (e.g., clarity, enjoyment, or knowledge level) so learners can respond in a heartbeat.

Match the question to the KPI
Make sure your prompt aligns with the KPI you selected—for example, use Happiness for general feedback and Program Effectiveness for knowledge checks.
