Building a learning experience in Gnowbe is incredibly easy. In this article, we are going to open up your toolkit and explore the interactive building blocks you will use to design your learners' journey.
Building Your Program: Sessions and Actions
As we learned previously, your program is made up of Sessions (the bite-sized, 5-to-10-minute daily lessons). Inside every Session is a sequence of Actions (the individual interactions the learner goes through).
How to Add Sessions
-
Open your program in Creator mode.
-
Navigate to the left sidebar, scroll down, and click Add Session.
-
Use the Gnowbe AI Magic Creator to generate your Session, or choose to build it manually.
How to Add Actions
-
Inside a Session, scroll down and click Add Actions.
-
Use the Gnowbe AI Magic Creator to generate your Action, or choose to build it manually.
-
If building manually, pick your desired Action type.
-
Click Add and Edit Action to confirm.
Designing The Journey: Know-Think-Apply-Share (KTAS) Framework
Wondering how to start designing a great learning experience? Meet the KTAS Framework. Think of it as your quick design guide—KTAS ensures you map out a dynamic learning journey using a rich mix of engaging activities to optimize learning.
You use different Actions to let the learner:
- Know - Consume information
- Think - Pause and reflect
- Apply - Practice the skill
- Share - Engage with their peers
We’ll dive deeper into the KTAS strategy in Article 8, but keep those four pillars in mind as we explore your standard content Actions below!
Your Curator Toolkit: The Core Actions
Gnowbe offers a rich menu of Action types. By mixing and matching these, you easily hit every step of the KTAS rhythm.
📖 Content Delivery Actions (The "Know")
-
Text: Your bread and butter. Use this for short paragraphs, bullet points, and quick explanations. Remember to keep it punchy!
-
Image & Audio: Upload a graphic, an infographic, or a photo, and pair it with an audio clip. This is perfect for creating mini "podcast" moments or talking a learner through a complex diagram.
-
Video: Embed or upload a short video clip (keep it under 3 minutes!) to explain concepts or show a process in action.
-
Quote: Use this action to format key phrases beautifully and make them stand out. Even better, learners can easily share these quotes directly to their social media feeds!
🤔 Interactive & Testing Actions (The "Think & Apply")
-
MCQ (Multiple Choice Question): Great for quick knowledge checks, polls, and surveys. You can set correct answers and provide instant feedback!
-
Q&A (Open-Ended): Pose a question and provide an open text box where learners can brainstorm ideas, capture their thoughts, or reflect on what they just learned.
-
Word Puzzle: A fun, gamified, hangman-style challenge. Provide a hint, and let learners guess the hidden word to reinforce vocabulary or acronyms.
-
Assessment: Time to make it official. Use this action for formal, scored tests with passing requirements and retry limits.
🤝 Participatory Actions (The "Share & Prove")
-
Take a Photo or Video: Bring training to life with a tool built for behavior change. Get learners to share proof of application by snapping a photo of a completed task or recording a roleplay, and share their hands-on work with the Group Board.
-
Choose a File: This action lets learners upload completed worksheets, signed PDFs, or assignments directly into the platform.
🔗 Resources & Rewards
-
Weblink: Embeds a webpage directly inside the Gnowbe app. The learner can view the site without ever leaving the learning experience.
See also: -
External Weblink: Directs learners to their default browser (like Safari or Chrome). This is perfect for sending your audience to external media sites to view videos, articles, or interactive content.
-
Certificate: The grand finale! Attach this action to the end of your program to automatically generate and award a personalized digital certificate of completion.

Work Smarter, Not Harder: Duplicate, Reorder, and Delete
If you built an absolutely perfect "Welcome" session or a fantastic end-of-module Feedback session, you don't have to rebuild it from scratch for your next program. Gnowbe allows you to duplicate entire Sessions and Actions across different programs.
You also have full control to delete Actions or Sessions if you change your mind. But a quick word of warning: ⚠️ Deletion is permanent! Always double-check that you are deleting the right block before you click the trash can icon.
